About the Author

Debora Kimball has spent her life balancing two great passions—caring for others and telling stories. Born and raised in Maine, the third daughter of two educators with four daughters, she discovered her love of writing at just ten years old when a teacher encouraged her talent. Since then, she has filled her life with words—poetry, essays, short stories, and novels—while building a remarkable career in professional nursing.

Over the course of a forty-five-year career, Deb specialized in Emergency, Critical Care nursing, and case management. She and her family have lived in seven states– Maine, Florida, Hawaii, California, South Carolina, Minnesota, and Massachusetts. In the eighties, following the birth of her two younger daughters, she was active in a childbirth education group in Austin, Minnesota, becoming a lactation consultant in 1988. In the last decade before retirement from nursing, from 2010 to 2021, she worked as the nurse case manager of a critical care unit at a Harvard University teaching hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Life has brought Debora both great love and deep loss. After raising three daughters and later being widowed twice, she retired to Tarpon Springs, Florida, where she turned to her lifelong dream of having one of her novels published. Her debut novel, Shared Enemy, set in Yarmouth on Cape Cod, is the culmination of decades of creativity, persistence, and passion for storytelling.

About the Book

Newly widowed Elizabeth struggles to figure out who she is after more than thirty years of wedded bliss. Seeking tranquility and renewal, she leaves Cambridge, Massachusetts, and rents a cottage at the beach on Cape Cod, where she meets Carla, a Cape native with her own connection to the cottage, although it’s one she’s not eager to share.

When Elizabeth and Carla meet Tricia, a powerful, wealthy philanthropist, the three women form a bond that arises from the discovery of their common misery: a man whose very existence threatens to destroy all of them.

Elizabeth has no idea that buried deep beneath the tranquility of her little cottage lie the seeds of deception, heartbreak, and murder. Sorting through a web of lies, both new and old, the three women must use everything within their power to try to save not only themselves, but each other.
